Today, at 3 PM, in Ribeira Grande, the NSR – North Shore Resorts will present the project for the construction of a tourist resort in the beach area of Santa Barbara, being the ceremony chaired by the Regional Secretary for the Economy.
This project was subject of a Collaboration Protocol, in May 2010, between the APIA and the NSR society for the its implementation in São Miguel Island, having been conducted and pronounced in a positive way as a candidate for Project of Regional Interest (PIR) classification and recognized as such by the Regional Government, in the Governing Council held on September 1st, 2011, benefiting from the monitoring process by the Agency.
The project, with a total investment of EUR 5 million, involves the construction of a tourist apartment complex with a 4-star rating, to be implemented in a building site near to Santa Barbara beach in the town of Ribeira Grande, São Miguel Island, and estimates the creation and maintenance of 18 direct jobs.
The project will consist of 40 villas and several restaurant areas providing leisure and tourism entertainment, from water, earth and air, trying to extend the concept of well-being.
The project also provides the holding of events out of season, such as the "Azores Island Pro", the World Bodyboard Championship and the "ISA - International Surfing Games," thereby breaking the seasonality effect.
The project also contains a strong ecological and environmental perspective, taking into account the use of materials and methods compatible with environmental sustainability during the construction phase.
