The competitiveness of the regional fisheries sector and its sustainability depend on the application of biological and ecologically sustainable exploration regimes, of a refinement of the capture technique, of transformation and commercialisation and of the increase in production and business activity, alongside the increase in diversification and of the quality of fish products.
The intention of this Programme is to achieve the sustainable development of the Fisheries sector of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, through a common strategic vision, an integrated policy, improved scientific and technical know-how, institutional cooperation between sector partners and ensuring that professionals are more highly valued, so that the Fisheries sector becomes more competitive within a context of globalisation.
Achieving these objectives will be based on the guidelines that propose the adaptation of the regional fisheries fleet, the development of aquaculture, transformation and commercialisation of fisheries products, measures of general interest and the sustainable development of the fisheries zones.
